The Chagres National Park was founded in 1985 to
protect the Chagres River Watershed, the most important water supplier of
the Panama Canal. With out it there would not be world commerce as we know
it.
You will visit the Chagres River upstream of Madden
Lake (Lago Alajuela) where the virgin jungles touches civilization.
This section of the river is Class II.
We will pass by Parara and Tusipono, two
Embera Villages.
ITINERARY
Our adventure begins by picking up guests in
Panama city at 9:00 A.M., arriving to Puerto Corotu an hour later. Here we
will cross by piragua motor boat to Victoriano Lorenzo where our jungle
hike starts.
During aproximately 1.5 hour demanding hike we will
be scouting for rainforest animals.
Once at the river we will proceed further upstream in
piragua motor boat up to a place where we will relax and have lunch by the
river.
Them float downstream in rafts passing gentle Class
II rapids.
We will pass by several
rainforest
Embera tribes , Parara and Tusipono, and although a visit to them is not
included we will certainly meet then since the river is their "road" to
civilization.
Closer to Madden Lake, we will proceed in outboard motorboat, for about half hour
back to civilization and back to your original pick up site at the city around
3:00 P.M.
Be ready to get some memorable rainforest pictures !
